What is Lactose-intolerance

Lactose is found naturally in milk and dairy products, regardless of whether the milk comes from cows, sheep or goats. Most patients with intolerance to lactose can drink 1-2 dl milk (7-12 g lactose) without symptoms, however, drank with a meal at the same time. Soured milk products are tolerated better, since they have a lower content of lactose, while hard cheese and mold cheese contains very little lactose so typically can be ingested in nearly unlimited quantity's  Lactose is however being added to more and more industrial food, which maybe start becoming more of a problem for those who are lactose intolerant as more foods contain it.

Lactose-intolerance is defined as abdominal discomfort (diarrhea, abdominal pain and air pollution), which is caused by the ingestion of lactose (milk sugar). The discomfort fades after total or partial elimination of lactose from the diet. Lactose-intolerant can effect people of all ages without gender differences. Due to the high nutritional value of dairy products should not be removed from the diet without serious reasons.

Children living on a farm have lower risk of getting asthma and other allergies?

Children who experience their earliest childhood on a farm, achieves greater protection against possibly asthma and other allergic disorders than other children.

Protection is greater if the baby is exposed to the rural influences in its very first years of life, according to a study in the prestigious journal The Lancet (2001).

Behind the study are researchers from children's Hospital in Salzburg in Austria, and they have examined the situation of children in rural areas and agricultural environments in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It turned out that children who were exposed to influences from farming environments, and who drank the farm's own milk, were less likely to develop asthma.

"The results from our study can contribute to a better understanding of the background for the development of asthma and other allergies and perhaps help to form the basis for future prevention strategies on allergies", says the head of the project, Dr. Josef Riedler, for The Lancet.

With in the study included factors such as the children's the contact to pets and livestock, mothers work on farms, children's consumption of the farm's own products and the farm's milk and children's vaccinations.

The asthma-allergy Association, has absolutely no plans to change the current recommendations for parents with infants and small children.

"In the past we have seen isolated studies, pointing slightly in the same direction as the Austrian's. But we have also seen studies that show the opposite, so it's by no means over. Without knowing the new survey in detail, I can generally say that today we do not know enough about the environment's importance for children, we in no way want to change on our recommendations and advice ", says a source from the asthma-allergy Association.

Do you think this is due to improved immune system broguth on by the exposure of more bacteria earlier on in life? What do you think?

Dont want allergies then get a dog!

Scandinavian Research has found that exposure to pets early in life may reduce the risk of developing allergy's, including asthma and allergic nasal problems.

The researchers examined data for 2,531 children who have been followed from birth to four years of age. When these children were born, there were pets in 22.4 percent of the homes, in 19.1 percent, there were dogs, and in 7.6 percent cats.

The risk of Atopic Dermatitis (asthma eczema), asthma and allergic nose inflammation was clearly less in homes with pets. Scientists believe that there may be several explanations for this. One is that early exposure to pets may have a protective effect. Another is that to keep pets can come with a lifestyle that protects against the development of allergic disorders.

Dogs can have a physiological benefit as well, as children quickly learn to see and read the dog's feelings, and it reinforces their social skills.
